Catholic church of the Byzantine rite "Saint Peter" in Elbasan, Albania (Albanian Eastern Catholic Church or Albanian Greek-Catholic Church). The Church was built in the center of the city around 1926 - 1928 with contributions from Arbëreshë Albanians and the missionary of the Italo-Albanian Church. The Archimandrite Mons. Pietro Scarpelli, Albanian Arbëresh priest of the Eparchy of Lungro in Calabria, was its first parish priest from 1928 to 1946. He, born in Albanian Calabria (Farneta, Catroregio) and raised in Albanian Basilicata (San Paolo Albanese), was a great supporter of ecumenism and for return of the Orthodox schismatics to unity with the Holy See of Rome. He was a missionary and evangelizer in his homeland of Albania, opening the door of the Church to all the citizens of Elbasan, from Latin Catholics to Orthodox brothers and Muslims.
